Veteran Ultrasound Executive Joins Kona Medical

BELLEVUE, Wash. & MENLO PARK, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Kona Medical announced that ultrasound industry veteran Jim Gilmore has joined the company as Senior Vice President of Research and Development. Gilmore was most recently Senior Vice President of Research and Development for FUJIFILM SonoSite, the worldwide leader in point-of-care ultrasound systems. As a founding member of SonoSite, Gilmore led the R&D team through numerous successful product introductions and played a key leadership role in developing the company’s product and technology strategy. He also led R&D diligence for several M&A projects including the billion-dollar acquisition of the company in 2012 by FUJIFILM. Gilmore’s career spans over 25 years in the ultrasound industry, with previous roles with GE Medical Systems, ATL Ultrasound, and Diasonics. In his new role with Kona Medical, he will lead commercial product development of the company’s ultrasound-based Surround Sound® Renal Denervation System.

“Jim brings outstanding commercial product development experience to the Kona team,” said Michael Gertner, MD, founder and CEO of Kona Medical. “We are pleased to have Jim join us and look forward to his contributions as we advance our technology.”

Kona Medical’s Surround Sound® utilizes ultrasound energy to achieve renal denervation non-invasively. Unlike other renal denervation methods which rely on a catheter emitting energy through the wall of the renal artery, Kona’s system delivers ultrasound energy to the nerves from outside the body. In May, the company announced six month results of its WAVE I clinical study, which demonstrated a 29mmHG reduction in systolic blood pressure at six months in resistant hypertension patients.

About Kona Medical

Note: the Kona Surround Sound® Renal Denervation System is investigational and is not yet approved for sale.
