"We are thrilled to have the benefit of Drs. Edwards' and Nelson's experience and unsurpassed insights as we prepare to launch the initial products from our technology pipeline," commented OrthoCare Innovations' CEO Doug McCormack. "Pairing Drs. Edwards' and Nelson's input with OrthoCare's extensive clinical research expertise and political reach, will position company products successfully in the changing reimbursement landscape."

Kenneth M. Nelson, MD served as SADMERC Medical Director following twenty years as Medical Advisor to the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services. In addition, Dr. Nelson served for five years as the only non-federal employee member of Medicare's Alphanumeric Working Group, which is responsible for coding durable medical equipment, prosthetics and orthotics.

Dr. Doran Edwards was the Medical Director to the SADMERC from 2003 until 2008. In this role, he worked extensively with high-level government officials to develop and implement national standards for both equipment billed to Medicare and Medicaid and the suppliers who can provide that equipment. He was responsible for the national HCPCS Level II coding function, and served as medical advisor to the CMS Alpha Numeric Work Group for creation of new codes for all DME, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies.

"Too many innovative, promising technologies do not receive coding due to avoidable missteps," commented Dr. Edwards. "I look forward to helping OrthoCare Innovations navigate the coding, coverage and payment process, starting with the Compas Smart Pyramid(TM) alignment component, so that patients will ultimately benefit from its exciting new advances."

Dr. Edwards was recently appointed to the CMS working group on Competitive Bidding.
