New York (September 9, 2021) – The latest study by specialist recruitment firm EPM Scientific discovered 60% of professionals shared a positive sentiment regarding the current job market. Comparably, precisely half (50%) of Life Sciences employees felt optimistic regarding their economic projections, a direct turnaround from last year’s findings, where nearly two-thirds (63%) of European workers and over half (56%) of U.S. respondents predicted a worsening economic situation in the next twelve months.
The results come from the EPM Scientific Job Confidence Index Report, which measures the pulse of confidence in the Life Sciences labor market. The index reports on professionals’ confidence in the economy, holding or getting a job, their compensation and bonus, relocation trends, flexible working patterns, and whether the normal motivational factors in employment have changed. The quantitative data was globally analysed across three regions: Europe, Asia Pacific, and the United States.
Key findings include:
- Making strides: 67% of the Life Sciences network are confident about their job security.
- Healthy rewards: Exactly half of employees surveyed received a bonus pay-out this year and an additional half expect a higher salary in the next twelve months.
- Half-hearted satisfaction: Only half (50%) of the global Life Sciences workforce shared a positive sentiment regarding their job satisfaction.
- Buckling up for departure: 62% of the Life Sciences community indicated that they would seek a new job opportunity in the next 6 months.
- Increasing mobility: Nearly 2 in 3 (66%) of the global talent pool are willing to relocate for a new job opportunity.
- Cashing in: From a global standpoint, the opportunity to progress careers bucks the trend as the most important motivating factor, totalling in at 61%, with higher salary following closely behind (58%).
- Flexibility for the future: Life Sciences employees highlighted the overwhelming importance the flexible working options (91%).

Results are derived from a 2021 EPM Scientific study which engaged with over 900 experienced Life Sciences professionals around the world. The online survey ran from April to May 2021.
