Gwinnett Hospital System Introduces Gwinnett Medical Center - Duluth

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- It’s official: the name of the facility that will replace Joan Glancy Memorial Hospital is Gwinnett Medical Center - Duluth.

Gwinnett Medical Center - Duluth was selected as the name for the 81-bed hospital, J. Thomas Karr, Jr., interim president and CEO of Gwinnett Health System (GHS), said. The new facility, currently under construction, is expected to open in August 2006.

“Selecting the name for this hospital was a very deliberate process, and something we took very seriously,” Karr said. “After conducting considerable market research within this community and soliciting input from our employees, physicians and other stakeholders, our Board of Directors reached the same conclusion that the majority of people who offered their opinion did: that Gwinnett Medical Center - Duluth was the most appropriate name for our new hospital.”

“On behalf of the Gwinnett Health System Board of Directors, I would like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone who helped us through the naming process,” Wayne Sikes, board chairman of Gwinnett Health System, said. “Through our research and employee and physician surveys, we found that the Gwinnett Medical Center brand was quite popular, and delivered positive name recognition. By adding ‘Duluth’ as a geographical marker, we have a name for the new facility that we believe will resonate with the community, and enhance the strong relationship our hospital system already enjoys throughout this region.”

The new facility will include over 175,000 square feet of modern inpatient treatment space, spacious operating rooms to accommodate the latest high-tech surgical equipment, and a family-friendly Intensive Care Unit with private rooms. Gwinnett Medical Center - Duluth will feature guest suites, balconies and room service for patients. The new hospital will also have a digital medication administration system and filmless radiology technology.

According to John F. Riddle, GHS vice president, marketing and development, plans for events marking the various stages of construction are currently being finalized.

“There will be several public celebrations that will culminate in the opening of our incredible, state-of-the-art facility,” Riddle said. “We look forward to the community’s involvement as we salute the past and celebrate the future with the opening of Gwinnett Medical Center - Duluth.”
