In Partnership with Alto Pharmacy, Kits Will Provide Guidance to More Patients and Lessen Strain on Overburdened Clinics

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Carbon Health, the technology-enabled healthcare provider designed from the ground up to put patient care first, announced today that it is actively shipping COVID-19 home test kits to patients who feel sick and who are recommended by providers to stay at home, but who wish to be tested to limit potential exposure to vulnerable people around them. The tests are currently available to patients located in California for an at-cost fee of $167.50. Carbon Health plans to offer them nationwide, pending state regulations.

This is part of Carbon Health’s efforts to use innovative ways to provide coronavirus solutions, including expanding testing availability to as many patients as possible. The COVID-19 home test kit is in addition to Carbon Health’s larger suite of coronavirus healthcare solutions, which includes its Coronavirus Assessment Tool, free virtual care and in-clinic testing, and it underscores the company’s commitment to offering accessible and fully integrated healthcare. The home test kits, which are available for use under an Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA, should decrease the strain on overburdened clinics, as well as prevent non-infected people from exposing themselves to the virus by entering a clinic populated by affected patients.

“Between supply shortages and lack of capacity, testing for COVID-19 is one of our country’s biggest obstacles to containing the outbreak,” said Eren Bali, Co-Founder and CEO of Carbon Health. “Our proprietary technology and partnership with Alto Pharmacy allowed us to move fast and efficiently create, analyze and distribute testing. We are also looking for more partners as we expand our distribution of home test kits. Our goal is to keep moving forward and make these tests widely accessible so that patients and clinicians everywhere benefit as quickly as possible.”

Carbon Health is partnering with Alto Pharmacy and a medical device manufacturer on this innovative offering. Carbon Health will be providing the front line care of the patients, starting with an assessment and for eligible patients, follow-ups of the test kit results and next steps. Alto Pharmacy is providing the delivery fulfillment and the medical device manufacturer developed the test kit and is providing the laboratory testing.

How it works:

  • Patients must complete Carbon Health’s Coronavirus Assessment Tool. In order to access the tool, users must sign up to join Carbon Health, which is free and simple.
  • Post-assessment, eligible patients will be referred to ordering and payment of the COVID-19 Home Test Kit.
    • Through the app, a request will be sent to Alto Pharmacy for order fulfillment and shipping of the kit.
  • Completed tests will be sent to a lab for analysis and results will be reviewed by a Carbon Health clinician, who will inform patients of their results and provide additional guidance when needed.

“Alto’s delivery expertise ensures partners like Carbon Health and our collective patients have access to important and urgently needed results without having to leave their home. This not only ensures the safety and health of individuals but also furthers the collective impact of social distancing efforts,” said Mattieu Gamache-Asselin, CEO and Founder of Alto Pharmacy.
