Eklin Medical Systems, Inc. Announces Acquisition of Ultrasource, Inc.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Eklin Medical Systems, a leading developer of digital radiography (DR), PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) and practice management software (VIA(TM)) for veterinary care practices, announced it has completed its acquisition of Ultrasource, the U.S. veterinary distributor for Philips Medical Systems' ultrasound product line. The acquisition adds an additional medical imaging modality to company's Eklin Digital Practice(R) family and fulfills rapidly growing customer demand for ultrasound solutions from Eklin.

"As ultrasound imaging has grown in popularity throughout veterinary care, we have experienced increasing demand for an Eklin ultrasound solution," said Gary R. Cantu, president and CEO of Eklin. "We wanted an ultrasound partner that shared our open workflow standards philosophy in order to provide our clients with ultrasound solutions that best fit their practice. Ultrasource and the Philips product line both embrace the same open DICOM standard protocols while providing outstanding customer service."

Ultrasource offers Philips, Sonoscape and SIUI ultrasound systems for small animal, equine, exotic and zoo animals. Applications include cardiology, internal medicine, reproduction, musculoskeletal and other soft tissue anatomy. Sophisticated color and pulse wave Doppler settings also monitor blood flow velocity and volume.

"With Eklin's proven leadership in introducing open standards technology to veterinary care, we felt Ultrasource was a natural fit within the Eklin Digital Practice," said Randy Laufersky, president of Ultrasource. "Our wide variety of ultrasound imaging solutions are completely DICOM compliant, bringing another valuable diagnostic imaging tool to the practice. This can translate to better results both economically and clinically."

In addition to ultrasound, Eklin provides a number of digital and data management products including DR, PACS and Practice Information Management software (VIA) for small animal, exotic and equine practices. Employing Eklin Digital Practice products and services, veterinarians can obtain images in seconds, then store, review and archive the images and other medical records at the touch of a button. It also offers sophisticated image processing tools, giving the clinician much greater depth of information that can be enlarged or manipulated for far better detail, resulting in closer scrutiny of potential areas of concern.

All of Eklin's digital technologies are built on published DICOM standards, the medical industry's digital imaging and storage protocols. This allows practices to select products from multiple vendors which follow the same open standard and be able to seamlessly integrate these other digital systems into the practice.

"The addition of ultrasound to our growing product line supports our goal of offering our clients a one-stop shopping experience through Eklin," said Cantu. "However, if the client prefers to integrate another DICOM compliant technology to our DR, ultrasound, PACS or practice management software, we firmly believe we should seamlessly facilitate this freedom of choice."
