Jump Simulation Recertified by the American College of Surgeons as Outstanding Center for Simulation Education

Jump Simulation, a part of OSF Innovation and a collaboration of OSF HealthCare and the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, has been recertified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as an outstanding center for simulation education.

PEORIA, Ill., /PRNewswire/ -- Jump Simulation, a part of OSF Innovation and a collaboration of OSF HealthCare and the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, has been recertified by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) as an outstanding center for simulation education.

Open since 2013, Jump is one of the largest purpose-built simulation and health care engineering center in the world. It achieved an initial 3-year certification by the ACS within the first 18 months of opening, faster than any center had previously. The new certification is for five years.

The designation means Jump is one of the top centers in the U.S. educating and training practicing surgeons, surgical residents, medical students, and members of the surgical team using simulation-based education. Centers of this caliber must develop original curricula, offer faculty development programs and courses, and assess their education and training programs’ impact on patient outcomes and safety. They must additionally engage in research or other scholarly activities that advance the field of surgical education and training.

“What this means for patients is that they can feel secure that the people at our hospitals and in our region are being cared for by surgeons that are getting state-of-the-art preparation through their training at Jump,” said Richard Pearl, MD, Surgical Director, Jump Simulation. “It’s a world-class center. Right here in Peoria we have one of the finest simulation centers in the world and the American College of Surgeons agrees with that.”

The American College of Surgeons is over 100 years old and is the largest surgical organization in the country. It certifies simulation education centers to standardize the level of education around the country and to allow a center to offer ACS-run education courses that attract people from around the country.
