Spiracur Added to Marathon Medical’s FSS Contract

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwire - January 18, 2011) - Spiracur® Inc., the developer of an ultraportable and single-use, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) device, today announced it has been added to Marathon Medical’s (Commerce City, CO) existing Federal Supply Schedule (FSS) contract, administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on behalf of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).

The arrangement allows Spiracur to expand the availability of its SNaP® Wound Care System in partnership with Marathon Medical throughout the entire federal healthcare system, the largest healthcare provider in the United States with over 1,300 Veterans health facilities, Department of Defense medical treatment facilities, Military Hospitals, Indian Health Service Hospitals and other government agencies.

Spiracur’s SNaP Wound Care System (Smart Negative Pressure) is changing the approach of how NPWT is delivered to patients. Its inventive design eliminates electric or battery power in the healing process; therefore, the delivery device is completely silent, as well as lightweight and small (less than 3 oz). The SNaP Wound Care System is disposable and can easily fit under a patient’s clothing, which has resulted in significantly improved patient acceptance and compliance of the therapy.

The Snap Wound Care System was cleared by the FDA in August 2009 in a new therapy category the FDA has defined as “non-powered” NPWT devices. The device is indicated for patients who would benefit from a suction device for wound healing. The device is indicated for removal of small amounts of exudate (fluid) from chronic, acute, traumatic, subacute and dehisced wounds, as well as ulcers (such as diabetic or pressure), and surgically closed incisions.

The amendment of solicitation that added the SNaP Wound Care System from Spiracur went into effect January 1, 2011, and the GSA/FSS contract extends through November 2012 [Contract Number: V797P-4052B], with an option to renew in 2012 for a five-year contract.
