Vizient Applauds FDA Approval of Biosimilar UDENYCA

Vizient announces its support for the approval of UDENYCA™ (pegfilgrastim-cbqv), the second pegfilgrastim biosimilar approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the first to be authorized by both the U.S. and the European Commission for patients with cancer receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy.

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vizient announces its support for the approval of UDENYCA™ (pegfilgrastim-cbqv), the second pegfilgrastim biosimilar approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the first to be authorized by both the U.S. and the European Commission for patients with cancer receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy. UDENYCA is the first drug from Coherus BioSciences (NASDAQ: CHRS) to receive FDA or EC approval.

“Vizient strongly believes that competition is essential to realizing meaningful price reductions on expensive oncology drugs and other biologics. According to an article recently published by the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy, the annual U.S. expense on Neulasta exceeds $4 billion and we have seen prices for Neulasta escalate on the order of 10% per year,” said Steven Lucio, associate vice president, pharmacy services, sourcing operations at Vizient. “We applaud FDA for expediting the approval of UDENYCA and the additional actions the Agency is taking to improve and expedite the introduction of biosimilar competition.”
