Tom Price is out as head of HHS, thanks to playing fast-and-loose with taxpayers’ dollars when it came to travel. So who will replace him? One leading candidate is FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who has won praise from both sides of the aisle since taking over the agency. Gottlieb has been around Washington a long time, with positions at the FDA and CMS as well as various think tanks. But his recent rise to prominence has been rapid…and could continue further. He has reportedly been very effective at FDA, mixing a strong vision for reform with a technocratic management style. It would be interesting to see how that approach would translate at the much larger HHS.
