Tuesday 13th October - Australia’s national body for the biotechnology and life sciences industry, AusBiotech, will host AusBiotech 2009 – the premier Australasian biotechnology conference at the end of this month from 27 – 30 October in Melbourne, Australia.
Following the success of last year’s event which attracted more than 1300 delegates from 32 countries, AusBiotech 2009 will showcase biotechnology research and development from companies across the Asia Pacific region, highlighting to representatives of biotech, investment and pharmaceutical sectors from around the world the high calibre of investment potential.
AusBiotech 2009 will build on the resounding success of the conference last year, which resulted in:
• 1785 participants attending the Conference and all Satellite Events
• 627 Presidents, VPs, CEOs, EOs, CFOs, MDs and CSOs from national and international companies
• Over 380 international participants including 94 from North America, 121 from Asia and 36 from Europe
• 2608 meeting requests - 1226 confirmed meetings through the Business Matching Program
• 159 speakers including 54 international speakers
• BioIndustry Exhibition Hall showcasing 112 exhibition booths
• Over 22 satellite and official functions held in conjunction with AusBiotech 2008 program.
The conference will be preceded by the inaugural AusBiotech Australasian Life Sciences Investment Summit, an invitation-only, one-day event that will give 40 Australian companies access to global life science investors by providing the opportunity to present to a range of national and international investors about their innovations.
The Hon John Brumby, Premier of Victoria and The Hon Anthony Byrne MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of Australia will officially open the Summit. The event is designed to support and stimulate investment in Australia’s biotechnology research and development, and has already secured the attendance of more than 90 local and international investors, representing 72 different companies.
AusBiotech 2009 features a comprehensive program that includes sessions on four biotechnology streams: human health; medical technology; agriculture, industrial and food; and investment and business. Conference presentations will cover a range of topics including: Biopharmaceuticals in a Post-GFC World; Global Regulatory Challenges and Opportunities; Product Development and Regulatory Aspects in Asia Pacific; and Changing Business Models and New Financial Opportunities and Health Technologies.
