NORTHBROOK, Ill., July 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Northbrook-based Autism Home Support Services (AHSS) is sponsoring the first-ever “sensory friendly” hours at Taste of Chicago on Sunday, July 15 from 10 am to 12 pm. During this time, less-stimulating entertainment and a “quiet tent” will provide a fun experience for families whose children have autism or other sensory disorders.

AHSS’ Quiet Tent will also be available on July 14 and 15 from 10 am to 6 pm in the Chicago Parent Kids Eat section of Taste of Chicago. Staffed by clinicians who specialize in working with children who have sensory disorders, the tent will provide a calm place for parents to take an overwhelmed child to recover. The tent will also offer sensory friendly activities.

“Parents whose children have autism often avoid public events because so much stimulation can be extremely uncomfortable,” said Erica Pozzie, Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Chief Clinical Officer, Autism Home Support Services. “AHSS is delighted to provide a sensory friendly experience so every family can enjoy Taste of Chicago.”

“Chicago Parent is all about including every single child. That’s just the way we should all lead our lives,” said Dan Haley, Publisher, Chicago Parent. “So we’re very happy to partner with Autism Home Support Services to create a special space within Kids Eat Chicago and the Taste of Chicago for families with kids with autism or other sensory issues.”

Autism Home Support Services, an Invo Company, is the Midwest’s largest provider of in-home ABA therapy and has served more than 1,200 families in metro Chicago, Ann Arbor and Denver. AHSS also offers center-based ABA therapy at facilities in Arlington Heights and Northbrook. The company is expanding its center- and home-based therapy services across the United States.
