Aegis Release: Two Texas-Based Hospitals Of Iasis Healthcare Join With Aegis To Improve Local Health And Reduce Employer Healthcare Costs

PORT ARTHUR, Texas, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Park Place Medical Center and Mid-Jefferson Hospital jointly announced today that they have engaged Nashville-based Aegis to assist in developing and implementing a community-based effort designed to improve local health and save local employers significant dollars in their healthcare expenditures. Aegis is the nation’s leader in linking the service capabilities of local providers with the health-related needs of local employers.

Working in partnership with local employers, the two hospitals and Aegis will utilize proprietary, confidential information to identify the health risks of employees related to specific diseases such as heart, cancer, diabetes, etc. At-risk employees will then be matched with appropriate hospital-based programs focusing on early detection, prevention and education initiatives.

“This program, for the first time, allows our hospitals and the local business community to work as true financial partners in combating the rising cost of healthcare,” says Craig Desmond, chief executive officer of Park Place and Mid-Jefferson Hospitals. “Together we cannot only help an employer’s bottom line, but we can assure that our hospitals are providing services that truly match the current and future needs of our community.”

At a time when healthcare costs are one of the single biggest expenses many employers face, partnering with a local hospital in this model program has been shown in more than 70 markets nationwide to save employers meaningful dollars in employee health costs, absenteeism, healthcare premiums, workers’ compensation and other healthcare-related expenditures. “This is the only program of its kind in the community, and we are excited about the positive impact we know we can make,” said Desmond.

In support of this effort, Aegis has provided Park Place Medical Center and Mid-Jefferson Hospital with its proprietary software and Internet applications as well as Aegis’ employer-based Health Information Centers, Personal Health Surveys and Personal Health Reports, which have been road tested in more than 7,000 employer sites across the United States. Aegis has also provided a hospital-based employer relations specialist to oversee the program and help cultivate employer relationships on a day-to-day basis.

Park Place Medical Center, part of Iasis Healthcare, is a 244-bed facility featuring one of the strongest cardiology programs in Texas. In addition to its outstanding open-heart surgery program, the hospital has two cardiac catheterization labs. Park Place offers other surgery services as well as strong programs in orthopedics, women’s care, neonatal intensive care, imaging and long-term acute care.

Mid-Jefferson Hospital, also part of Iasis Healthcare, is a 138-bed facility in Nederland, Texas. The hospital offers a wide array of services and technologies including a large emergency department; obstetrics with labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum rooms; advanced surgical procedures (including bariatric surgery and cosmetic surgery); and diagnostic and imaging services that include prenatal three-dimensional ultrasound, CAT Scan, MRI, and stereotactic breast biopsy.

Since pioneering the concept of employer-directed marketing in 1989, no other company focused on such alternative marketing has been able to match Aegis’ breadth of services, track record and bottom-line proven performance. The company’s national client base includes for-profit, not-for-profit and academic medical centers that have turned to Aegis to enhance bottom-line profitability by driving top-line growth.
