WASHINGTON, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) President and CEO Karen Ignagni today made the following statement regarding House passage of legislation that would exempt Association Health Plans (AHPs) from state regulation:
“We agree that overlapping and duplicative state regulations raise health care costs and swell the ranks of the uninsured. However, we don’t support carving out special preferences for an untested approach to health care coverage while health insurance plans that have a proven track record must comply with a bewildering and conflicting maze of regulations that pushes up the cost of coverage for millions of Americans.
“We welcome the opportunity to work with lawmakers from both parties to address regulatory barriers to affordable health care. We urge Congress and the Administration to consider a solution that solves this problem broadly and equitably, and does not single out untested approaches for special treatment.”
