BNX To Manage System Access And Authentication For 2,500 Users At Northern California Health Department

VIENNA, Va., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- BNX Systems(TM), a leading provider of Controlled Access Management solutions, today announced that the Contra Costa County Health Services Department will implement BNX Authenticated Sign-On to increase staff productivity, as well as strengthen security for its medical records and patient information to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Contra Costa Health Services will use the BNX solution to manage system access and authentication for more than 2,500 users that includes physicians, nurses, technicians and administrative staff. BNX's solution will be deployed to Contra Costa Health Services' 164-bed hospital and affiliated ambulatory care system, public health, mental health and substance abuse services and the Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP) HMO.

The solution initially will integrate with fingerprint biometric devices and allow authorized users to gain entry to more than 15 applications, including information such as patient care, medical, lab, pharmaceutical, managed care and administrative systems. The applications run on a variety of platforms including Windows, Linux, and UNIX IBM servers. After the initial implementation, CCHS plans to use the BNX solution to integrate with all remaining Contra Costa applications.

"The BNX solution will help us increase the security of patient data to comply with HIPAA regulations," said Jeff Wanger, IS Director of the Contra Costa Health Services Department. "Not only will users save time logging on, but BNX's flexible, open solution works with all of our applications and eliminates the need for costly upgrades to our heterogeneous IT infrastructure. This is expected to result in enhanced support for patient care while offsetting operational support costs."

"Healthcare organizations face formidable challenges in delivering the highest quality patient care, while trying to contain costs and meet regulations for securing patient data," said Mike Harper, CEO of BNX. "BNX Authenticated Sign-On will help them turn those challenges into a competitive advantage by enabling them to strengthen security, improve user productivity and reduce costs."
