CSC Signs Business Process Outsourcing Agreement With Southwestern Emergency Physicians

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Computer Sciences Corporation today announced it has signed a five-year business process outsourcing (BPO) agreement with Southwestern Emergency Physicians (SWEP), a Georgia-based staffing company that serves physician group practices and hospital emergency units. Under the agreement, CSC's physician practice BPO center in Birmingham, Ala., will perform emergency medical services coding, billing and collections for SWEP.

SWEP provides turnkey emergency room services, including physician services and administrative support, to two hospitals in southwestern Georgia that handle more than 70,000 emergency room patient visits annually. With CSC's BPO services, SWEP will simplify financial administration, reduce processing costs and renew its focus on patient care, a core competency.

"The hospitals that we support are moving toward paperless processing," said Dr. Gopala Derebail, SWEP vice president. "CSC has the technology and infrastructure to support a seamless transition, along with strong business process expertise and a focus on quality assurance."

"Hospitals are under increasing pressure to streamline emergency department billing and collections," said Steve Sabino, vice president of CSC's Health Plan Solutions organization. "With CSC's support, SWEP can help its hospital clients improve coding accuracy and turnaround time on financial transactions, reducing the hospitals' audit liability and increasing the profitability of their emergency departments."

For more than 25 years, CSC has delivered applications and outsourcing services that help health plans, preferred provider organizations, third-party administrators and physician practices improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, increase speed to market, and improve customer service and care management. CSC's applications, application service provider and BPO services support more than 300 healthcare clients, representing 30 million covered lives and 230 million claims annually.
