COLUMBIA, S.C., April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Doctors Care is pleased to announce it was recently honored with the Best Practices Award, given by the South Carolina Psychological Association in their 2004 Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards.
The Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award was created to recognize businesses and organizations that demonstrate a commitment to the psychological health and well-being of their employees. Doctors Care received Best Practices recognition in the area of Health and Safety.
“This Best Practice Award is specifically to honor Doctors Care for the policies and dedication of the organization to promote the health and well- being of its employees,” says Rhea A. Merck, Ph.D., a licensed counseling psychologist and one of the award judges. “We were particularly impressed with the smoking cessation incentives, physical fitness programs and free medical policy.”
Doctors Care gives employees full reimbursement for smoking cessation aids such as nicotine patches and gum. They promote healthy lifestyles and weight loss through JumpStart Challenge, a program that employs a unique business partnership with Specialized Fitness, a wellness center focusing on personal training and nutrition counseling. Since the program began in 2003, Doctors Care employees have lost a combined total of more than 800 pounds. Doctors Care has offered free medical care for its employees and their immediate family members since they first opened in 1981. This free medical care includes in-house lab work, x-rays, pap smears, allergy shots and physical therapy through Progressive Physical Therapy, a Doctors Care affiliate. In most cases, employees receive sample medications, saving them the expense of prescription drugs.
“We are excited to receive this honor,” says Jacqueline McAllister, vice president of finance and corporate controller for Doctors Care. “We know this is a wonderful company to work for, but when someone outside the organization reviews our policies and finds we deserve this recognition, it is very special. We’ll continue to offer new policies for employees’ health and safety as well as building on the programs and benefits now in place.”
Doctors Care is a network of medical offices providing services for urgent care, primary care, family medicine, preventive and occupational health care. The company has 28 centers located throughout South Carolina and one in Tennessee. In addition, Doctors Care operates 12 Progressive Physical Therapy locations, which are contiguous to its centers. Combined, more than 600 people are employed at the 41 locations.
