NEW YORK, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- F.E.G.S Health and Human Services System Inc. (www.fegs.org) announced today that it has entered into license agreement with NeuroTrax Corporation (www.neurotrax.com) for use of the advanced Mindstreams(R) cognitive assessment system. F.E.G.S, one of the largest not-for-profit health, education and social services systems in the U.S. operates 280 facilities, residences, and off-site locations and cares for over 80,000 people each year. It provides services for mental health, psychiatric rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, home care, education, youth-at-risk, residential and employment assistance. According to Jonas Waizer, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer of F.E.G.S, “In our continuing approach to advance evidenced-based practices, F.E.G.S will work with Mindstreams(R) cognitive assessment to extend outcomes measurement for schizophrenia, cognitive problems of the elderly and possibly learning disorders. In the F.E.G.S system, Mindstreams(R) testing will be used selectively to measure cognitive performance before therapeutic interventions, and then repeated to track the progress during the treatment process”.
Reliable and practical office-based measurement of cognitive function has become critical for disease management programs involving psychiatric and neurological disease. “NeuroTrax offers user-friendly technologically- advanced solutions for large organizations, such as F.E.G.S, that depend upon customized approaches to outcomes measurement.” according to Ely Simon, M.D., a board certified neurologist and creator of Mindstreams(R). “The alliance with F.E.G.S signals that the mental health market is ready to move to more advanced standardized cognitive assessment tools. The first applications for Mindstreams(R) involved early detection of Alzheimer’s disease and tracking of dementia severity. Lately, interest in Mindstreams(R) has expanded to other areas, including Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and schizophrenia. These interactive computer tests that were validated in multi-center studies can flag the earliest stages of the disease and then track treatment effects. Mindstreams(R) testing is done on a standard PC and takes 15-40 minutes. Mindstreams(R) has been adopted by healthcare systems, universities, and practitioners.
