Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) Release: PA Hospitals: New Report Reinforces Importance Of Nurses

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) today applauded a new nursing report released by the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee.

"This report is a vital addition to the discussion about the current and future state of Pennsylvania's health care workforce," said Carolyn F. Scanlan, president and CEO of HAP. "It recognizes the critical role of nurses in assuring Pennsylvanians' access to quality health care.

"The report also addresses the need for a comprehensive strategy for nurse recruitment, training, and retention covering such topics as licensure, educational capacity, and work environments.

"Following on the heels of Governor Rendell's creation this week of the Pennsylvania Center for Health Careers, we are seeing continuing emphasis by state policymakers on understanding and meeting the growing need for the recruitment and education of health care professionals for hospitals and other medical facilities," Scanlan said. "We commend the Governor and the General Assembly for recognizing the role of health care in improving Pennsylvanians' quality of life, creating jobs, and spurring economic development. We look forward to working with legislators and the Governor on these important workforce development issues."
