Lown Cardiovascular Research Foundation to Present Favorable Long Term Results in Coronary Patients Who Deferred Invasive Tests or Treatment; Results to be Presented at Annual Meeting of American College of Cardiology

BROOKLINE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Lown Cardiovascular Research Foundation will present data evaluating long-term mortality rates of patients who sought second opinions at the Lown Center and elected to receive optimal medical therapy (OMT) after being advised to undergo invasive procedures elsewhere. The data will be presented on Monday, March 26th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. (Central Time) at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Cardiology in Chicago. Optimal medical therapy included aspirin along with medications for blood pressure, cholesterol and angina. Over the follow-up duration of twelve years, the study demonstrated that death rates in second opinion patients who elected OMT were comparable to rates that have been reported for invasive treatment modalities.
