MURFREESBORO, Tenn., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Stinger Medical founder Gary Coonan announced today the appointment of Phillip D. Suiter as President and CEO of Stinger Medical. Coonan has served as President and CEO since his founding of the company in 1994. He will continue his involvement as Chairman of the Board of Directors and remain active in the research and development of new products for Stinger.
Stinger has been recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of America’s 500 fastest growing private companies, as a Nashville Area Music City Future 50 business and as a winner of the Nashville Business Journal’s ‘Best In Business Award.’

Most recently, Suiter served as Director of Development for Vanderbilt’s Center for Better Health. He also held President, COO and Board Director positions with NotifyMD, Inc., the nation’s largest HIPAA-compliant messaging provider for healthcare. He was also a founder and former Executive Vice President of Medical Properties of America, a national owner and operator of healthcare properties. Medical Properties of America was acquired by Windrose Medical Properties Trust in 2003.
During his tenure as Vice President of Operations at Vivra Specialty Partners, Vivra was acquired by Gambro AB in 1997 for $1.6 billion. He served as General Manager of the Provider Division of MedStat/Inforum and was a member of the senior management team that took the company public in 1991. In 1995, the Thomson Corporation/Medical Economics purchased MedStat/Inforum for nearly $400 million while Suiter was the Chief Executive at Inforum.
