PinnacleHealth Installs First On-Cue(TM) Software Solution on the East Coast Alongside Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation’s Aquilion(R) ONE Dynamic Volume CT

MENLO PARK, CA--(Marketwire - February 17, 2009) - Allocade, Inc., a developer of innovative healthcare software solutions, announced today that PinnacleHealth, of Harrisburg, Penn., has installed the first On-Cue™ system on the East Coast. On-Cue is a software solution that enables hospitals to reclaim their unused capacity by automating the manual patient flow process and dynamically rescheduling exams in real time as conditions change.

“We are very pleased with the recent On-Cue installation at PinnacleHealth and the rapid adoption of the technology by the hospital,” said Rick Smith, president and CEO, Allocade. “We designed the On-Cue software solution to help hospital departments maximize resource capacity, improve patient experience and ultimately reduce overall operating costs.”

PinnacleHealth installed the On-Cue software solution in the CT Department, which consists of three different control rooms separated by five floors, as well as in the Emergency Department. In addition, the hospital recently installed Toshiba’s Aquilion® ONE, the world’s first dynamic volume CT system, which helps physicians to diagnose life-threatening conditions in minutes. The addition of the Aquilion ONE and On-Cue to the hospital is having a positive effect on patient flow as well as overall patient care across several departments hospital-wide.

According to Bill Wilkison, vice president, Ambulatory Care & Ancillary Services, PinnacleHealth, “Inpatients, outpatients and emergency patients all need access to our imaging resources, often at the same time. In addition, delays and schedule changes create situations that compromise the efficiency of our equipment as well as our technologists on a daily basis. On-Cue helps us to react to these situations in real time by directing the right patient to the right resource at the right time to optimize patient care.”

After installation of the On-Cue system, PinnacleHealth went live on January 5, 2009 and the hospital staff immediately recognized the potential for optimized patient care, a reduction in operating costs and maximized resource capacity.

“On-Cue will enable cross-department dynamic scheduling, which will result not only in operating efficiencies for PinnacleHealth, but more importantly, the ability for us to provide patients with daily services and activity schedules throughout their stay in our hospital,” said Steven Roth, vice president and chief information officer, PinnacleHealth. “I believe the predictability and efficiency that On-Cue provides helps our patients to feel more confident in our clinical capabilities. In addition, there is a reduction in overall costs because On-Cue improves the transition of care between providers.”

With the addition of the new Toshiba Aquilion ONE 320 slice CT scanner, physicians have data that replaces a variety of duplicative tests and invasive procedures. As a result, the hospital is experiencing increased demand for CT scans due to the new imaging services they now offer.

“The new Aquilion ONE has presented us with a variety of new options and challenges,” said Karen Botts, director of Radiology, PinnacleHealth. “Allocade’s On-Cue system is helping us to maximize the speed and versatility of the CT scanner and offer us the opportunity to improve our throughput as well as enable us to provide new diagnostic tools to our patients and referring physicians.”

The genesis of the On-Cue technology comes from NASA, where Allocade’s Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Don Rosenthal, worked as a leading computer scientist within the Artificial Intelligence Application Group at the NASA Ames Research Center. The underlying On-Cue engine is the result of Rosenthal’s work to optimally utilize the limited resources on the Hubble Space Telescope.
