Robard Corporation Release: Annual Conference to Educate New or Experienced Practitioners on the Science and Business of Weight Management

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ, February 7, 2011(Robard Corporation)— Robard Corporation formally announced today its 3rd Annual Continuing Education (CME/CEU) Conference, The Science and Business of Weight Management for the New or Experienced Practitioner. The conference, which begins on July 21, 2011, in Philadelphia, will focus on the operational and treatment skills, techniques, and strategies healthcare professionals need to successfully open a new weight loss facility or enhance a current weight management program.

Obesity is an epidemic of mounting proportions. The World Health Organization reports that, “Globally, there are more than 1 billion overweight adults, at least 300 million of them clinically obese.” Currently, an estimated 65% of the United States’ population is overweight, including a third of our youth. Furthermore, George Washington University researchers recently concluded that the annual cost for an obese woman is $4,879, while American men pay an additional $2,646 to carry their extra weight. This includes medical bills, extra sick days, lower productivity, and even extra gas. It does not include lost wages from premature death, which brings the cost up to $8,365.

Healthcare professionals are in a unique position to improve the quality of life for individuals who are obese and overweight. As the obesity epidemic progresses, healthcare professionals should look toward educational forums to learn about the latest research advances, operational and treatment skills, techniques and strategies needed to successfully open a new weight management facility or enhance an existing program. To that end, Robard Corporation, through its Annual Continuing Education (CME/CEU) Conference, is pushing for education and providing an opportunity for networking and the exchange of essential knowledge.

This year’s Robard funded CME/CEU conference features over 13 nationally recognized lecturers, including Judith S. Beck, Ph.D., Gary D. Foster, Ph.D., James S. Skinner, Ph.D., and John Hernried, M.D., F.A.C.P., who will focus on practical applications that are grounded in their real-world experiences treating obese and overweight individuals. Their presentations, in addition to four intimate Breakout Sessions and a slew of other lectures, will offer indispensible information and business management strategies.

“Education and networking can help physicians overcome the barriers to treating obesity in their practices,” says Robert F. Kushner, M.D., M.S., Professor of Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a speaker at this year’s conference. “Educational conferences, like Robard’s Annual CME/CEU Conference, offer knowledge and training for managing overweight patients. And with that, physicians gain confidence in their ability to treat and change patient behavior. That is the key.”
