MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif., June 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With warm weather quickly approaching, many people are focused on losing weight and achieving healthier bodies. However, taking the first step toward weight-loss may be a struggle for many, according to a recent survey conducted on behalf of the SENSA® Weight-Loss System. Despite nearly three-quarters (72%) of Americans’ desire to lose weight to become healthier, many face some serious obstacles in battling the bulge: giving up their favorite foods (26%) and finding the motivation to workout (33%).

The survey also revealed some surprising findings on people’s perceptions when it comes to weight loss:

    • A quarter of Americans (24%) are actually too embarrassed to work out at a gym
    • One in five Americans (21%) say that they have sex less often because they are self-conscious about their weight and body
  • Bringing sexy back: For both men and women, sex is a primary driver toward weight loss.
    • A quarter of the people surveyed (25%) don’t have the courage to tell their partner they wish they would lose weight
    • One of the biggest motivators to lose weight for both sexes is to feel more attractive (Women 48% vs. Men 25%)
    • Women are nearly three times as likely as men (Women 16% vs. Men 6%) to report that they would give up sex in order to lose weight
    • Nearly a quarter of men surveyed (15%) believe they would have a better sex life if they were to shed excess pounds
  • Say goodbye to comforts of the home: Americans are willing to give up their daily comforts for a year in order to lose weight.
    • Where did Lolo go? Nearly three times as many people would give up their pets (13%) over the Internet (5%) in order to guarantee they’d lose those unwanted pounds
    • People are also willing to give up basic needs to lose weight including: coffee (28%), vacation days (12%), car (4%) and their paycheck (2%)
