The agency acted after a clinical trial called SAVOR-TMI suggested that saxagliptin was associated with a 27% increase in hospitalizations for heart failure, as well as a higher risk of all-cause mortality. More than 200 Onglyza and Kombiglyze XR lawsuits are now pending in the federal multidistrict litigation underway in Kentucky. Plaintiffs involved in this proceeding claim that AstraZeneca and Bristol-Myers Squibb concealed information linking saxagliptin to an increased risk of heart failure and failed to warn doctors and patients about its alleged potential to cause cardiac arrest, congestive heart failure, and death.
