The technique of deep brain stimulation pertains to the use of a pacemaker-like device that delivers continuous stimulation via electric signals to areas within the brain that show signs of dysfunction. According to some research reports and expert articles, the deep brain stimulation technique has been used for treating over 40,000 people suffering from Parkinson’s disease. As well as Parkinson’s disease, such devices are also being subject to clinical trials to determine their efficacy in treating other conditions such as obsessive compulsive disorder and depression.
