CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- ETEX is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Aliassghar Tofighi to the position of Distinguished Research Fellow. In this role, Dr. Tofighi will apply his extensive scientific expertise to further the discovery and exploration of potential inventions and products relevant to ETEX’s technology. Dr. Tofighi also will be responsible for expanding ETEX’s scientific presence in organizations and publications related to bioceramics and bone repair.
Dr. Tofighi completed his first Doctorate in Material Physics in 1976 at the Calcium Phosphate Research Center (CPRC) in Toulouse, France, followed by a Ph.D. in Material Science specializing in High Temperature Refractory Ceramics from the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (France) in 1982. Dr. Tofighi served as a Professor of Physical Chemistry at Ecole National Superieur Travaux Public in West Africa, becoming Director of the Science department in 1985. In 1992, Dr. Tofighi returned to Toulouse’s CPRC to lead studies in bioceramics and calcium phosphate bone cements, where he developed a new process regarding low temperature ceramization of apatitic calcium phosphate.
Dr. Tofighi joined ETEX in 1995 as a Senior Scientist; since that time, he has held a variety of positions including Director of Process Development, Director of Research, Director of Development, and V.P. of Research & Development. During his career, he has been awarded 14 patents, authored over 70 scientific publications, and has contributed chapters in two scientific books. He has served as a review committee member for Biomaterials Journal, the International Scientific Committee of Bioceramics and ASTM.
