Hamamatsu Photonics Large Area LED UV Curing System

November, 2010 -- Hamamatsu Photonics introduce the LC-L3, a dedicated large area UV curing system, adding to our existing range of high performance LED and lamp based curing systems. The new addition features an array of 9 high power UV LEDs. Through the use of forced air cooling, these LEDs offer a high stability output, which is easily maintained over the 10,000 hour average LED lifetime.

The long lifetime of the LC-L3 significantly reduces the maintenance costs of operating a curing system and there is no requirement for optical alignment during the LED operating period.

The LC-L3 is available in both 365nm and 385nm emission wavelength versions, which offer 250mW/cm2 and 325mW/cm2 irradiation intensities respectively. At a distance of 30mm, a large area cure of 40mm x 40mm is easily achieved. Additionally, the modular design of the LC-L3 allows multiple heads to be arrayed together to create, for example, a 180mm x 180mm irradiation area, or alternatively the heads can be combined linearly to create a 40mm x 215mm area.

When used for UV adhesive curing, the LC-L3 allows quick curing of various electronic and optical components in just a few seconds. This approach avoids thermal damage to the target object, or any peripheral parts, which are vulnerable to heat. The LC-L3 system allows RS-232C computer controlled or pre-set curing cycles for different electronic processes, which guarantee’s the best “cure” every time. The LC-L3 is also suitable for a wide range of spectroscopy and general UV applications requiring a high quality, high brightness UV light source.
