Novel library prep accelerates the rate and scale of DNA sequencing
SAN DIEGO & WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--iGenomX, an innovator of NGS library preparation technology, announced today the commercial launch of their Riptide™ High-Throughput Rapid Library Prep (HT-RLP) during the American Society of Microbiology’s (ASM) Conference on Rapid Applied Microbial Next Generation Sequencing. The product enables users to create up to 960 high quality NGS libraries ten times faster than the next leading library prep. The protocol is simple, easy to automate, and avoids cumbersome processing steps such as fragmentation, repair and ligation of DNA.
The cost of generating high quality DNA sequence has plummeted over the past decade and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Today, hundreds to thousands of bacterial genomes can be sequenced simultaneously at a cost of a few dollars per genome. However, the process of preparing DNA for sequencing is labor intensive and can cost ten times (or more) than the cost of sequencing itself. The Riptide HT-RLP product from iGenomX provides a low cost, scalable solution that can match the increasing pace of DNA sequence generation.
“The Riptide HT-RLP product was developed over the past two years including a six month early access evaluation period with leading industrial and academic institutions,” said Keith Brown, iGenomX CEO. “The ability to rapidly and inexpensively process hundreds or thousands of samples for analysis with next generation sequencing is ideally suited for metagenomic and high throughput QC applications. Decreasing the cost of data generation increases the number of samples that can be sequenced, which increases the confidence in the results. To date, thousands of microbial genomes have been sequenced using iGenomX technology.”
The Riptide™ HT-RLP product is intended for use on small genomes and synthetic DNA constructs. The company has focused on applications including microbiome screening, whole genome sequencing of microbial genomes, quality control of synthetic DNA products, and high throughput genotyping by sequencing. “iGenomX provides a high throughput, low cost and easy to use solution for NGS sample preparation,” said Steven Head, Co-Director of the NGS core facility at the Scripps Research Institute and co-inventor of the technology. “More scientists can use DNA sequencing in their research and more data can be generated with limited budgets.”

About iGenomX
Founded in 2012, iGenomX initially sought to provide clinical sequencing for recessive genetic disorders. However, available commercial technology failed to produce a comprehensive test, missing nearly 30 percent of known causal mutations. Compelled to develop a technology that is capable of detecting all genetic variation, iGenomX pivoted to begin work on a low-cost sample preparation technology. Invented in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Salomon at The Scripps Research Institute (La Jolla, CA) and licensed exclusively to iGenomX, this technology has become the core of all iGenomX NGS applications. In 2014, iGenomX began operations in Southern California to further develop the technology and intellectual property. IGenomX currently has five product lines in development.
