Securing medical device access Syracuse, N.Y. (February 6, 2019) - JADAK, a business unit of Novanta Corporation (“Novanta”) announces a joint technology partnership with Imprivata®, the healthcare IT security company. The integration of Imprivata Medical Device Access, a secure authentication solution, directly into JADAK’s medical hand scanner product line will allow medical device manufacturers to offer fast and secure access to medical carts and analyzers to their customers. The solution will simplify clinical workflows in a convenient, market-proven manner by allowing clinicians to use just one single unit as opposed to separate barcode and RFID devices. This in turn, eliminates cables, reduces clutter, and occupies a single input port on the host device while ensuring secure device access.
Today, JADAK has integrated barcode scanning with RFID card reading functionality into a single, ergonomic, and compact design. This allows clinicians at the point-of-care to use their ID badges for fast access and secure device log-in while also capturing barcode data, such as patient wristbands or drug barcode information, with a single device. Comprised of medical grade materials, the JADAK hand scanners combine dual technologies for many healthcare applications including patient identification, clinician login and identification, pharmaceutical/drug tracking, and digital signature capture. The HS-1R and HS-2R family of handheld scanners can help reduce medical errors, increase clinical efficiency, and improve patient satisfaction when integrated into a medical system.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Imprivata,” says Annika Matas, JADAK Product Manager. “This technology partnership enables JADAK to move another step forward in helping hospitals and healthcare providers keep their patients safe while adhering to data security and compliance mandates.”
Alongside with this technology partnership, JADAK announces the upcoming launch of the HS-1RL, which adds Low Frequency RFID badge compatibility to this family of hand scanners. “Imprivata is looking forward to working with JADAK in order to provide a broader range of secure, convenient authentication solutions for medical devices” says Rob Egan, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Imprivata. Imprivata Medical Device Access will be demonstrated in the Imprivata booth (#2959) at HIMSS19 in Orlando, Florida (February 11-15). The demos will include specific workflows that utilize the JADAK HS-1R HF RFID scanner for badge access to select patient monitors.
