Pharma giant, Merck, plans to make its Irish unit, Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), a major centre for its global research & development (R&D). The world’s fourth largest drug company plans an extensive medical, regulatory affairs and clinical research department at its new headquarters in Leopardstown, South Dublin. The plans were announced at the official opening of MSD Ireland Human Health’s new Irish headquarters in the IDA’s South County Dublin Business Park, which was performed by Tanaiste, Mary Harney. The 25,800 square foot state-of-the-art headquarters will house up to 120 staff over the next five years and cost E2m to fit out. In April this year the company announced a E5m investment in Ireland and the creation of 80 new high-level jobs. Recruitment in the areas of sales, marketing, external affairs, human resources and finance have been completed and MSD Ireland Human Health is concentrating on recruiting a team of medical staff to work under the newly appointed Medical Director, Dr Neil Boyle. Dr Boyle has more than 10 years experience with a number of multinational pharmaceutical companies.
