Sage Products Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against SwipeSense

CARY, IL--(Marketwired - November 05, 2013) - Sage Products LLC (www.sageproducts.com) announced today that it has filed a lawsuit for patent infringement against SwipeSense, Inc. (“SwipeSense”) in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Sage has a proven track record of over forty years for developing innovative products that are shown in published research to reduce surgical site infections, ventilator-associated pneumonia, catheter-associated urinary tract infections and other healthcare-associated infections.

In the past few years, Sage has invested heavily in the development of an innovative system to dramatically improve and monitor the performance and compliance for hand hygiene with clinicians -- one of the most important challenges in healthcare today. The Sage system has undergone clinical trials in several hospitals nationwide in critical care, emergency and operating room settings. These trials have resulted in published outcomes showing dramatic improvement and sustainability in both compliance and reduction of healthcare-acquired infections. Currently, Sage is conducting a large, multi-center clinical study with two prestigious teaching hospitals to further measure and validate the impact of this innovative hand hygiene system.

“Sage is at the forefront of changing hand hygiene behavior and improving patient safety in healthcare facilities. Our system is the truly viable and proven solution clinicians have been looking for,” stated Jim Layer, Vice President of Product Development, Sage Products. “We intend to aggressively defend our substantial patent portfolio, which covers the essential products and methods to monitor hand hygiene compliance by healthcare workers.”

Sage’s Complaint alleges that SwipeSense’s Hand Hygiene 2.0 compliance monitoring system and products for hand hygiene infringes Sage’s United States Patent No. 6,392,546. In its Complaint, Sage has further asserted that it has suffered irreparable harm as a result of the alleged infringement and seeks a permanent injunction against SwipeSense. The requested injunction would prevent SwipeSense from manufacturing, using, offering for sale, selling and/or importing into the United States its Hand Hygiene 2.0 compliance monitoring system and products. Sage also seeks a recovery of monetary damages resulting from SwipeSense for past infringement of Sage’s patent and all legal fees and costs incurred as a result of its enforcement effort.
