PurpleStride Supports the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Urgent Mission to Save Lives and
Double Pancreatic Cancer Survival
San Jose, CA (November 2, 2019) – Over one thousand people will walk to end pancreatic cancer, the world’s toughest cancer, at PurpleStride Silicon Valley on Nov.2. The community event presented by The Shens Family & Friends is hosted by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) Silicon Valley Affiliate.
Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the U.S. with a five-year survival rate of just 9 percent. In order to save lives and double pancreatic cancer survival, PanCAN urges the Silicon Valley community to join PurpleStride. Funds raised through the event support critical research, clinical initiatives and patient services, including Know Your Tumor®, Precision PromiseSM, Clinical Trial Finder and the Patient Registry.
Randi C. Ervin, volunteer Outreach Chair of the San Francisco Affiliate and pancreatic cancer survivor, started her battle with pancreatic cancer in 2016. After recognizing the extensive resources PanCAN offers to patients and their family members, she joined the fight to spread awareness herself,” This year, I decided to pay it forward. I become a volunteer and am now the Outreach Chair of the San Francisco Affiliate to raise awareness in our community. The outcomes for pancreatic cancer and cancers involving the pancreas are staggeringly low. But, with PanCAN I have faith that outcomes will improve, and that more of us can and will survive.”
