SAN DIEGO, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The San Diego Consortium for Regenerative Medicine (SDCRM) today announced that it has received the highest score in three of four categories from the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) on Part I of the Major Facilities Grant Application.
SDCRM's application, which was submitted last October, earned scores of 99 for basic research and discovery, 95 for preclinical research, 94 for preclinical development and 93 for use and contribution. Each of the four areas was evaluated on a scale of one to 100. Scores were approved by the Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee (ICOC) on Jan. 16. The Part I application contained information about SDCRM's scientific program, including the consortium's focus on the areas of neuroscience, hematopoiesis, heart disease, ophthalmic diseases and diabetes, among others.

SDCRM will submit Part II of the Major Facility Grant Application, which contains technical information about the facility and how SDCRM's scientific program aligns with CIRM's objectives, in February. ICOC review and ultimate funding decisions will take place in April of this year.
