Psychology Today -- Why did YOU leave your last job? From time to time, I coach managers and executives who are in career transition, helping them develop and execute strategies for finding their next role. As part of this process, in addition to helping them polish their resumes, develop networking strategies, clarify their career goals, and practice their “elevator pitch,” I also help them prepare for interviews. In my experience, the senior most executives often make the same mistake as people just starting out in their careers- they go on autopilot at a certain critical moment in the interview. Specifically, even former “C-Suite” leaders often turn into seeming automatons as they explain why they are currently in career transition.
